DESCRIPTION:Queensland Medical Women’s Society (QMWS) is excited for the latest in our mentor series – the March Mentor Mixer! \nThis is a wonderful opportunity for medical students\, junior doctors\, and senior doctors to engage with their peers and senior colleagues while supporting a meaningful purpose. Medicine can be a difficult profession to navigate\, we hope QMWS provides a safe space for our mentees to build supportive relations with their mentors and share their questions and concerns. \nWe are delighted to host this mixer at the Lovewell Cafe at Mount Gravatt. DESCRIPTION:Queensland Medical Women’s Society (QMWS) invites members and guests to join us on Wednesday 20th May 2026 for our upcoming Dinner Meeting. We are delighted to present an evening featuring Dr Teresa Nano\, Dr Susan Bell and Dr Sally Meade\, all highly experienced General Surgeons with expertise in Breast and Endocrine Surgery. \nDate/time: Wednesday 20th May 2026\, 6.30pm for a 7pm start\nLocation: The Summit\, 1/1012 Sir Samuel Griffith Dr\, Mount Coot-tha QLD 4066\nTickets: via Humanitix\nDress: Smart Casual. \nFeatured Speakers\nDr Teresa Nano\nDr Teresa Nano is an experienced Breast and Endocrine Surgeon with a comprehensive practice across all aspects of breast cancer care\, including reconstruction\, as well as thyroid and parathyroid surgery\, with a particular interest in minimally invasive techniques. Dr Nano graduated with Honours from the University of Queensland in 1990 and completed her general surgical training with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons\, attaining Fellowship in 1999. She has also contributed to surgical education as a Senior Lecturer at the University of Queensland. She further sub-specialised through a dedicated two-year fellowship in Breast and Endocrine Surgery at the Royal Adelaide Hospital\, where she also undertook a Master of Surgery focused on breast cancer reconstruction. Dr Nano is actively involved in quality improvement and clinical governance\, contributing to the BreastSurgANZ Quality Audit\, and remains committed to maintaining the highest standards of patient care through ongoing professional development. She is currently a Visiting Medical Officer at Greenslopes Private Hospital and consults with BreastScreen Queensland and the Wesley Breast Clinic. She is also an Associate Clinical Lecturer at the University of Queensland. A passionate educator\, Dr Nano is actively involved in teaching medical students\, junior doctors and advanced surgical trainees\, and contributes to preparing candidates for the RACS Fellowship examinations. She has also presented widely at national meetings\, including the Australasian Society of Breast Disease. \nDr Susan Bell\nDr Susan Bell is a General\, Breast and Endocrine Surgeon with a special interest in oncoplastic breast surgery. Originally from the Netherlands\, she completed medical school in 2003 before relocating to Australia in 2006\, where she undertook General Surgical training in Queensland\, completing her Fellowship in 2014. She then completed two years of post-fellowship training with BreastSurgANZ\, gaining advanced experience in oncoplastic breast and endocrine surgery. Her fellowship training included positions at Mater Hospital Brisbane and the Royal Adelaide Hospital\, a leading centre in advanced oncoplastic and reconstructive breast surgery. Dr Bell currently holds a position at Ipswich Hospital and is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Queensland. She is also involved with BreastScreen Queensland and teaches on the ASSET surgical skills course. She is committed to delivering patient-centred care with a strong focus on individualised treatment and optimal cosmetic outcomes. \nDr Sally Meade\nDr Sally Meade is a General Surgeon with post-fellowship training in Breast and Endocrine Surgery and over 20 years of clinical experience. She completed her Fellowship with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2002 and undertook further subspecialty training in Breast and Endocrine Surgery at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in 2004. Dr Meade spent nearly two decades practising in Townsville\, providing specialist surgical care to North Queensland before returning to Brisbane in 2022. She now works in both private and public settings\, including Greenslopes Private Hospital and Mater Hospital Brisbane. She remains actively involved in endocrine surgery at Townsville University Hospital and participates in emergency general surgery services. Dr Meade is a dedicated educator\, holding teaching roles with the University of Queensland and previously with James Cook University. She is also an examiner for the RACS General Surgery Fellowship examinations. SUMMARY:Purple Bush Medicine Bursary
DESCRIPTION:Now in its sixth year\, the 2026 Purple Bush Medicine Leaves Bursary Program will be launched on Tuesday 26 May 2026\, to coincide with National Sorry Day. \nThe recipients will be women who identify as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander\, is a Medical Graduate or in their final year of medicine of an Australian medical degree or course. \nThese bursaries will provide the recipient with a financial contribution to assist their attendance and/or presentation at a national or international meeting that focuses on issues related to Indigenous Medicine and Education\, Women in Medicine\, Ethics\, Leadership and/or Governance. \n  \nRead more about previous recipient: Dr Loyola Wills\, who heralds from the Torres Strait Islands\, and is a Purple Bush Medicine Leaves Bursary Recipient in 2024\, and again in 2025\, and has had a leading role amongst the Alumnae. \nIntroducing Dr Loyola Wills\, Purple Bush Medicine Leaves Bursary Recipient\, 2024 & 2025

Alongside her clinical and academic work\, she is deeply committed to medical education\, leadership development\, and creating healthier\, more sustainable workplaces for doctors. \nA passionate advocate for professional culture and physician wellbeing\, Dr Lee brings a unique perspective on navigating medicine with purpose\, resilience\, and authenticity.
