Event Recap
By Dr Natasha Abeysekera
Our recent Queensland Medical Women’s Society August Dinner was a truly memorable event, filled with insightful discussions, inspiring presentations, and a strong sense of community among our members. The evening was graced by the presence of Dr. Clare Boothroyd, a distinguished reproductive endocrinologist and fertility specialist. Her talk, titled “Medical Women – Balancing Career and Fertility,” resonated deeply with everyone in attendance.
Dr. Boothroyd, drawing from her extensive experience in the field, explored the unique challenges faced by women in medicine as they navigate the demanding landscape of their careers while considering their fertility options. Dr. Boothroyd also shared practical advice on managing these dual aspects of life, emphasising the importance of making informed decisions and accessing the right support systems. The conversation delved into the societal pressures and expectations placed on women in medicine, and how these can impact both career progression and personal life choices. Dr. Boothroyd’s insights sparked thoughtful discussions on the importance of mentorship, workplace flexibility, and the role of medical institutions in supporting female doctors through their reproductive journeys.
In addition to Dr. Boothroyd’s thought-provoking presentation, Dr Chloe Hang provided an exciting update on the upcoming QMWS Centennial celebrations. She outlined the plans for this landmark event, which will honour the rich history and enduring legacy of the Society. Chloe’s update included a call for active participation from all members, ensuring that this centennial will be a fitting tribute to the pioneering women who have shaped our profession.
The evening was generously sponsored by MIPS, whose support made the event possible. Their contribution to our Society is deeply appreciated, and we are grateful for their continued commitment to the professional and personal growth of our members.
As the night drew to a close, attendees left with a renewed sense of purpose and connection. We extend our sincere thanks to Dr. Clare Boothroyd for her invaluable contributions, to Dr Chloe Hang for her enthusiastic updates, and to all who joined us for this enriching evening.
