Medical Students and Recent Graduates, continue to grow in interest and purpose.
The 2024 program, through NCWQ and its sponsors (including QMWS), offers a range of bursaries, to assist Queensland women with their educational expenses, and/or to attend an event to advance their leadership and professional development.
This year, amongst the 35 or so NCWQ Bursaries offered, there will be at least four (4) that are particularly relevant to medical women, to be awarded in collaboration with the Queensland Medical Women’s Society.
In addition to the 3 medical women’s bursaries last year (see below) in 2024, a fourth bursary, the inaugural Quota/NCWQ Bursary will be offered. This bursary has been established in memory of Dr Laurel McIntosh OBE. She was much admired and respected in her work as a pioneering paediatric ophthalmologist, and was Former President and Life Member of QMWS. The
bursary is intended for a female medical graduate undertaking specialist training in the field of ophthalmology.
The four bursaries include :
- QMWS (Mater) Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Bursary
- QMWS (AMAQ) Professor Tess Cramond Memorial Bursary
- Queensland Medical Women’s Society Bursary
- Quota Brisbane/NCWQ Bursary in honour of Dr Laurel Macintosh OBE
Last year’s (2023) recipients include:

* Mater Bursary : Megan SHUTTLEWORTH
* Prof Tess Cramond Bursary: Jasmine SOMERS
