QMWS100: 1929 to 2029 Counting down to 100 years!

The Queensland Medical Women’s Society (QMWS) is on the path to a remarkable milestone—our 100th anniversary in 2029. To celebrate this centenary, we have launched the QMWS100 initiative, dedicated to honouring our rich legacy, celebrating the achievements of medical women in Queensland, and inspiring future generations.

As part of this initiative, we are undertaking several key projects, including:

  • Commissioning a Dr. Lilian Cooper sculpture to pay tribute to Queensland’s first female doctor and pioneer.
  • Preserving our archival records to safeguard our history for future generations.
  • Creating a traveling exhibition that will showcase the journey and impact of QMWS over the past century.

We warmly invite members, supporters, and the wider community to join us in commemorating this momentous occasion and contributing to the enduring legacy of QMWS.

Get Involved

In 2025, we will host quarterly evening meetings on Thursdays at 5:00 pm in the Emeritus Professor Mary Mahoney Boardroom at the Herston Mayne Medical School. These meetings provide valuable opportunities for members to engage in the centennial preparations. On-site parking is available with prior arrangement.

If you’re interested in participating, please reach out to the QMWS100 subcommittee via email or by clicking the ‘interested’ button above.

We look forward to celebrating this historic milestone with you!
