Ms Lauren Roth – 2022 Purple Bush Medicine Leaves recipient

Introducing Ms Lauren Roth

Ms Lauren Roth, is a Tjungundji/Torres Strait Islander woman, and final year medical student at Griffith University on the Gold Coast.

“My journey into health started as an Aboriginal Health worker then Registered Nurse before pursuing medicine. My story about my journey into medicine is important to me because it demonstrates that there is more than one path into medicine.

Next year I will be completing my Internship at Tweed Hospital. After completing my internship, I wish to pursue a career in General Practice.

I am committed to continuing to support patients on their health journeys, addressing not only their biomedical needs but also their psychological and spiritual needs.

I plan to continue working in community controlled medical centre to promote the importance of regular health checks, living a healthy lifestyle, early intervention and preventative health checks such mammograms. Preventative health is an aspect of health that I am very passionate about.

As a doctor, I would like to be a part of implementing programs which are community driven and improve the health outcomes of First Peoples.”
