QMWS strongly supports professional development, including participating in international conferences, networking with both medical and women’s groups, and mentoring opportunities to further members’ aspirations in the medical field. Inspirational role models and mentoring opportunities are instrumental in inspiring, shaping and supporting extraordinary careers. This bursary supports female medical students’ involvement in local and international conferences and networking opportunities, so that they may reach their full potential, achieve their dreams, and work towards truly equitable health outcomes for all.

Your kind donation will support our ongoing contribution to Queensland medical women students. Your donation directly contributes toward the QMWS Bursary funds. The other two bursaries are fully funded by our kind sponsors – Mater Health and AMAQ.

To celebrate the 90th anniversary of QMWS, the NCWQ QMWS Student Bursary Program was established in 2019.
QMWS continues to promote the health and welfare of all Australians, particularly women and children. The bursary program supports female medical students, recent graduates and those in need in Queensland who are passionate about health equity and gender equity in medicine.
Congratulations to Anna Duan for being named the recipient of the 2024 Queensland Medical Womens Society bursary! Anna is a fourth year medical and Master of Public Health & Tropical Medicine student at James Cook University, who plans to use the bursary to attend the National Rural Health Conference.
Congratulations to Ava Allen for being named the recipient of the 2024 QMWS & AMA Queensland Professor Tess Cramond Memorial bursary! Ava is a medical student with a special interest in Surgery who plans to use this bursary to meet mentors, contribute meaningfully to medical research, and work toward eradicating systemic health disparities.
Congratulations to Clancy Morgan for being named the recipient of the 2024 Mater Health Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander bursary! Clancy is a medical student passionate about building trust in the healthcare system by connecting to communities and improving health outcomes for rural and Indigenous people.

Welcome to this month’s ‘President’s Chat’ for the Queensland Medical Women’s Society (QMWS)! This month’s guest is Udani Liyanage, a final-year medical student at Bond University with a strong passion for healthcare, research, and community service.
The Purple Bush Medicine Leaves Bursary Program, inaugurated in 2021 and now in its 4th year, is one component of a broader Project of the AFMW – to advance the parity of representation of First Nations Peoples in the Australian medical workforce, and in its leadership. In 2024, the AFMW is offering up to four bursaries for this purpose, each valued at $1250, with the awards to be announced in NAIDOC Week in July 2024.
